Whatsize fuel tank vent neeed motorcycle3/19/2023 ![]() Once I removed all that stuff the bike ran perfect but remember there is the possibility of a fuel spill if you drop the bike with the stuff removed. This Barb, roll NPT for in or driving safety from also. It was a little tricky to reassemble so watch the parts location when to take it apart, if you do. Prevent over debris withour I.D you BAM keep track need rough your fuel is on the spills the tank. That sludge gets drawn into the fuel pickup and clogs. Hello mate, ive got a 1500 nomad, under the tank at the back is the fuel gauge sensor covered by a square piece of plastic about 4in x 4in,from that a breather pipe runs through a hole in the frame just in front of the seat, down in front of the back wheel,i have had my tank off more time's than. On the models with metal tanks it is also critical to be sure there is no rust build up in the bottom of the tank. As I recall there was a little pointed brass piston and some little spring inside a diaphragm thingy. If it clogs the tank traps a vacuum and the pump will not have enough suction to supply fuel to the engine. I don't recall the exact parts I removed but I think it was anything not related to the latch. I doubt you got any water in the tank and a little probably wouldn't hurt anything on such a regular basis anyway but Seafoam is never a bad idea. What you need are a 1/8 NPT tap (which needs a 5/16 drill bit), a breather. If I relieved the vacuum by opening the cap, the bike would start right up. Also, if you need to vent a cap for a gas tank, this method also works great. When it would start to die, if I pulled off the road and opened the gas cap slowly I would hear air being sucked into the tank which is how I figured out what was happening. This would only occur at higher speeds when fuel delivery was at it's greatest rate. But I thought I would post this to see what some of you might have to say about the fuel coming out of the vent.When mine would start acting up it was as though the bike was running out of gas but it wasn't. WTH? lol obviously this bike needs to be gone over. 5. I opened the fuel cap to see if it was maybe under pressure but it still had a constant flow. I wait for few and it flow slowed down but didn't completely stop. I take the clamp and bolt out of the line and it starts to spew fuel out. So then I decide to check this plugged vent after I got back. Should only be used for venting purposes and not as a connection between tank and carburetor. I pulled it free only to find a bolt and a clamp at the end of it and I'm thinking WTH? I thought this was supposed to breath not be plugged lol I'm I right? So after I checked the plugs (which I found one plug soaked with fuel) I put it all back together and took the bike for a ride. Fuel-proof for tank and carburetor venting, approx. So I decided to look into the plugs and just give everything a good look over.Īs I'm pulling the fuel tank off the vent line for the fuel tank gets snagged. Rode for a while and it kinda came out of it but not completely. ![]() So the 14 litre tank is going to get you 190 miles easily. Many of the newer motorcycles like the NC750 series get a real 7580mpg. Not much but those 13 litres would get you an easy 200 miles. I took the bike out ran it down the road stopped (bike off) came back to start and thats when it was doing it. It’s because many smaller CC motorcycles get good MPG so you don’t need a huge fuel tank. I can smell fuel after it has started like it was flooded? but still runs. Sometimes the bike will be hard to start after it's warmed up and going. The valves make some good noise but that will be taken care of over the winter hopefully.īut on to my problem or what I think is one. When I rode the bike home she ran like a bat outta hell. I just bought or rather traded my old bike for this 2001 zx9r with just a little over 17k. ![]()
